Charity Challenge 2016

Walkers Completing the Challenge

Moffat Mountain Rescue Team held the annual Charity Challenge event in the hills above Durisdeer. A successful day with 91 entrants has already raised over £1500 towards Moffat Mountain Rescue Team with still more sponsorship to come in over the next few weeks.

After laying out the courses on Saturday while also providing safety cover for the Durisdeer Fell Race all was set for Sunday. The only concern was whether the rain would stay away.

Sunday dawned with cloudy skies and the remnants of the previous night’s rain clearing away.

Soon the days walkers started arriving with walk 4 walkers bussed round to their start at Daer Reservoir. By 1100 all the walkers were on the hills with low cloud moving round giving sporadic views from the hill tops.

A record entry for walk 1 saw children and parents enjoying a fantastic walk to the Roman Road from Durisdeer.

Notable entries included a walker who the team rescued from the summit of Criffel after she broke her ankle earlier this year in the snow. She had raised around £300 in sponsorship for the team. We are pleased to say she has made a full recovery from her injury.

Sanquhar school sent a team of walkers who enjoyed their day on the hill.

At the end of the day the walkers enjoyed burgers, tea and cakes back at Durisdeermill Hall.

The event is an important fundraiser for Moffat Mountain Rescue team normally raising around £2000.

This year is especially important as the team is fundraising for a new control vehicle to replace our existing older vehicle.
